Several injured as assailant lunged at Democratic candidate for Ohio governor at fair, campaign says

An armed man attempted to assault Democratic candidate Amy Acton for Ohio governor during a campaign stop at the Canfield Fair on Sunday, causing injury to several people, according to campaign officials. The suspect, who was arrested with multiple weapons, knocked over volunteers before lunging at Acton, who was not harmed. The Mahoning County Democrat booth was also targeted in the incident.

Acton, the state's former public health director, vowed to confront the chaos, hate, and vitriol that divide people. The Ohio State Highway Patrol and other authorities responded promptly to the situation. Republican Governor Mike DeWine condemned the attempted attack, emphasizing that violence or its threat at political or public events is unacceptable.
