AZ Alkmaar have taken the lead in the Eredivisie league after PSV suffered a late setback. The champions struggled in the first half as they were missing striker Ricardo Pepi, who left the game injured after just nine minutes. Twente dominated the opening 20 minutes, but couldn't capitalize on their chances. However, they were unable to hold on to their lead as stand-in striker Guus Til scored two swift goals just before halftime.
