Ohio Democratic candidate for governor Amy Acton attacked at Canfield Fair

Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton was assaulted at the Canfield Fair near Youngstown on Sunday, as reported by her campaign and the state highway patrol. The 38-year-old assailant, Patrick Havas, managed to disrupt multiple individuals and approach Acton before being apprehended. Havas was found in possession of a taser and two pistols, and he has been charged with disorderly conduct and assault.

He has yet to retain legal representation. The incident has been referred to the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol for investigation, but no further details were released at the time. Acton's campaign spokesperson, Addie Bullock, denounced the violence in a statement, emphasizing that such acts have no place in Ohio.

Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican opponent of Acton in the upcoming general election, also condemned the incident as "completely unacceptable," stating that candidates should be able to engage with voters safely. The Mahoning County Democratic Party chairman, Chris Anderson, and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, a Republican facing term limits, both expressed their disapproval of the attack on Acton.
