Ohio gubernatorial candidate Acton attacked at fair

Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton was assaulted at the Canfield Fair in Youngstown on Sunday, her campaign confirmed. The unidentified assailant, armed with multiple weapons, targeted Acton while she mingled with supporters, according to spokesperson Addie Bullock. The attacker disrupted the event, causing multiple people to fall and sustain injuries.

Chris Anderson, chairman of the Mahoning County Democratic Party, reported that the assailant knocked over volunteers and claimed to be carrying several weapons. The Mahoning County Sheriff's Office and Ohio State Highway Patrol have yet to comment on the incident. Sheriff Jerry Greene revealed that the suspect, identified as Patrick Havas, knocked down two older adults during the attack.

Greene stated that Havas is likely to face charges of assault and disorderly conduct. Connie Luck, a spokesperson for Acton's Republican opponent Vivek Ramaswamy in the general election, condemned the assault, emphasizing that candidates should not have to endure threats or violence while interacting with voters. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, a Republican not eligible for re-election due to term limits, also denounced the attack.
