Privacy Policy
How urgent.news handles data. Short version: we collect no accounts, no personal profiles, run no ads, and use no third-party trackers.
Last updated 9 August 2026.
Who we are
urgent.news is an independent news aggregator operated by an individual based in Singapore, hosted on Cloudflare. Questions about privacy or this policy: legal@urgent.news.
What we collect
Reading urgent.news requires no account, sign-up, or personal details, and we run no advertising, no third-party analytics, and no cross-site trackers. The only data tied to you is a small set of first-party cookies that remember your own choices, described below.
Cookies
All of our cookies are first-party, functional, and set with HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax. None are used for advertising or tracking.
| Cookie | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
| un_follow | The topic desks you follow (for /for-you) | 1 year |
| un_cc | The country edition you pick from the flag menu | 1 year |
| un_theme | Your light / dark preference | 1 year |
| un_admin | Sign-in for the site's operator only | 12 hours |
Because these store only your own explicit preferences and are not shared or used to track you, they fall within the "strictly necessary / functional" category that does not require a consent banner — but we disclose them here so you know what's set. You can clear them any time in your browser.
Location
To open the right country edition by default, we read your IP address momentarily, at Cloudflare's network edge, to resolve it to a country. We do not store, log, or otherwise retain your IP address, and you can override the edition at any time from the flag menu.
Infrastructure and third parties
The site runs entirely on Cloudflare (compute, database, storage, and AI); your requests transit Cloudflare's global network, which Cloudflare processes under its own terms. We fetch stories from publishers' public feeds and the Hacker News API, and generate story illustrations through a third-party AI image service — all from article content, not from any data about you. Because the site runs at the edge, processing may occur in many countries.
What we don't do
We do not sell, rent, or share personal data; we do not serve ads; we do not build advertising or behavioural profiles; and we do not use third-party analytics or tracking pixels.
Your rights
Under Singapore's PDPA you may ask about and request correction of any personal data we hold. If you are in the EU or UK and those laws apply to your use, you also have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and may complain to your data-protection authority. To exercise any of these, email legal@urgent.news. We do not sell or share personal information within the meaning of the California CCPA/CPRA.
Children
urgent.news is a general news service, not directed at children, and collects no data from them.
