Assailant lunged at Democratic candidate for Ohio governor at fair, campaign says

An armed assailant attacked Democratic candidate for Ohio governor, Amy Acton, at a campaign stop during the Canfield Fair on Sunday, injuring multiple people, according to campaign officials. The suspect, who was armed with "multiple weapons," was apprehended by law enforcement. Acton herself was not harmed, yet several volunteers were knocked to the ground during the incident.

The Mahoning County Democratic Party chairman, Chris Anderson, confirmed the assault and expressed gratitude for the prompt response from authorities. The state's former public health director is currently campaigning against Republican Vivek Ramaswamy, who has leveraged his celebrity status and political connections to raise funds for political advertising.

Ramaswamy's campaign spokesperson, Connie Luck, condemned the violence, stating that candidates should be able to engage with voters without facing threats or harm. The incident occurred at the fairground, but the local police and Ohio State Highway Patrol have not yet provided an official statement regarding the matter.
