The paper is free and stays free. What is priced is the propagation record underneath it.
Every story page, feed, country edition, RSS feed and MCP tool on this site is open to anyone, with no key, no limit and no account. Nothing on this page changes that, and nothing on this page ever will — a paper that starts charging for the page it already gave away has sold the only thing that made it worth reading.
What is priced is the layer built on top: which outlets carried a story, from which countries, in what order, and how fast it moved. That comes from a corpus that costs real money to keep current.

Paid plans are not open for signup yet. The free Open key works today and its limit is real. If you need more before checkout opens, say so and we will raise it by hand.
What counts as a call
One request to a metered endpoint — /api/coverage/{id}.json or /api/propagation.json — is one call, counted against the UTC day and reported back on every response in x-ratelimit-remaining. Requests to the open endpoints are not counted at all. Going over the limit returns 429 with the reset time; it never silently truncates or degrades a result.
What is not sold
Not article text, and not anyone's reading. The site stores no reader identity to sell — no cookie, no session, no per-visitor record — and that is a design constraint, not a policy that could be revised later. See Privacy and Editorial Standards.
