Israeli strikes on Lebanon kill several despite truce

At least four individuals lost their lives in Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon on Sunday, despite the ongoing ceasefire between the two nations, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. Around 20 people, including children, sustained injuries from the strikes, the ministry reported. Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun denounced the strikes as a "dangerous escalation" that targeted "purely civilian administrations and health centers."

He held Israel wholly accountable for the ongoing escalation, urging the United States and the international community to intervene immediately and hold the perpetrators accountable, his aides stated in a statement. In response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed the strikes were a retaliation for a "blatant violation" by Hezbollah militants.

The military reported that two Hezbollah drones were launched towards IDF soldiers positioned in the Security Zone in southern Lebanon, with no Israeli casualties reported. On Sunday morning, the Israeli military issued an evacuation alert for the Arab Salim area, citing a Hezbollah facility there. Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) confirmed that the Israeli military subsequently conducted a strike on the building mentioned in the original evacuation warning, destroying it.

Additionally, enemy warplanes targeted another house in Nabatieh al-Fawqa, killing two women and two others in Israeli strikes near the town. Lebanon's Health Ministry described one of the Israeli strikes as a "total destruction" of a disused hospital, calling it "another grave violation of international humanitarian law." The Israeli military stated that their targets included a Hezbollah command center inside a building previously used as a hospital, as well as a weapons depot.

The strikes were conducted in response to Hezbollah's attempted attack in the Ali Taher Ridge area and to eliminate potential threats posed by Hezbollah, the IDF claimed.
