Israeli army plans to destroy Ali Al-Taher tunnels, withdraw from southern Lebanon positions

The Israeli military is set to demolish strategic tunnels beneath the Ali Al-Taher heights in southern Lebanon and partially withdraw from its security perimeter in the region, according to reports from the Israeli public broadcaster. The sources indicate that the underground routes are to be destroyed once the tunnels have been confirmed empty of any armed militants, with no armed militants remaining alive inside the complex beneath the heights, according to the broadcaster.

The Israeli army's withdrawal plan will be presented to the commander of the Israeli army’s Northern Command for approval and then to the political leadership for final authorization. The plan involves Israeli forces stepping back beyond the "yellow line" after the destruction of the Ali Al-Taher tunnels, relocating between two and four kilometers from the Israeli border.

Additionally, 20 permanent military sites will be established along the "gray line." Once Israeli forces vacate those areas, they will be monitored by aerial surveillance and air force drones, but there will be no direct Israeli military presence. Israel has informed the Lebanese government, through the United States, that it will not allow Lebanese civilians to return to the vacated areas.

The issue of Lebanese civilians returning to their villages will be resolved through negotiations between Israel and Lebanon, which are scheduled to restart next week in Rome.
