Lebanon’s president calls for US help after 4 killed in Israeli strikes

Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun called for US assistance and international intervention following Israeli airstrikes that killed at least four people, including two women, in various locations on Sunday. The attacks occurred despite a truce and an Israel-Lebanon deal, with Israel claiming the strikes targeted Hezbollah operatives and infrastructure following a drone attack by the Iran-backed group on Israeli troops.

Israel reported no troop casualties but accused Hezbollah of a blatant violation of the deal. Lebanese state institutions and health facilities were damaged in the strikes, with one out-of-service hospital being totally destroyed, described as another grave violation of international humanitarian law. The Israeli army identified Hezbollah command centers and weapons storage facilities as targets, while Lebanon's health ministry reported twenty casualties and wounded in the attacks.

The strikes took place in the Nabatieh area, Arab Salim, Nabatieh city, and Kfar Rumman, with one of the sites entirely destroying the Ghandour hospital. The Israeli army had earlier issued an evacuation notice for Arab Salim residents, warning of an attack on a building identified as a Hezbollah facility. Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported an additional strike on a motorcycle and an airstrike on a historical building in Nabatieh, causing extensive damage to surrounding structures and vehicles.
