Michigan shooting: 5 killed, 1 critically injured, gunman found dead after manhunt

On Friday, a shooting in northern Michigan claimed the lives of five individuals, leaving one person critically injured. The suspected gunman, Chad Hickman, was also found dead after a large-scale manhunt, according to Michigan State Police. Troopers responded to a call around 11:40 am local time in Missaukee County, approximately 272 km northwest of Detroit, following reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers discovered three victims deceased and another critically wounded. It was later revealed that the suspect had fled the scene before the arrival of law enforcement.

The search for Hickman led investigators to an additional dead body at a different residence, bringing the total number of victims to five. Hickman's vehicle was found in a wooded area near Whitlock Lake, where he and another individual were subsequently located dead. The cause of death for both individuals remains undisclosed, and it is unclear whether the third deceased person discovered near the vehicle is related to the shooting. The relationship between the victims and the suspect is also under investigation.

Michigan State Police Lieutenant Ashley Miller stated that the community is "heartbroken" by the incident, and investigators are committed to conducting a thorough investigation. The identities, ages, and genders of the victims have not been disclosed, as police wait to notify their families. The shooting occurred in Missaukee County, a largely rural area in northern Michigan, and authorities have advised residents to avoid the area while the investigation continues.

Court records indicate that Hickman was in the midst of a divorce and had previously served a sentence for two misdemeanor charges related to a 2010 offense, though it remains unknown if these cases are connected to the shooting. No possible motive for the attack has been provided by authorities, and the investigation is ongoing.
