Selangor Sultan urges Muslims to show compassion towards all animals, including strays

Shah Alam, on August 15, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has urged Muslims to be compassionate towards all creatures, including stray animals and wildlife. During his Friday sermon titled 'Ihsan Terhadap Mahkluk Allah SWT', he emphasized the importance of reflecting on its teachings. The Sultan's message was shared on the Selangor Royal Office's Facebook page, where he highlighted humans' responsibility as stewards of the earth to protect and manage the environment responsibly.

All these elements, including animals, plants, hills, seas, and rivers, are signs of Allah SWT's greatness and must be preserved. Sultan Sharafuddin reiterated that the relationship between humans and other creatures should be based on compassion and responsibility, echoing Prophet Muhammad's emphasis on treating animals well by providing them with food and water.

However, the Sultan noted that situations may arise where wildlife poses a threat to public safety or damages property. In such cases, Islam allows taking action to prevent harm, aligning with the Maqasid Syariah's objectives of protecting life and property. The Sultan emphasized that showing compassion towards animals and ensuring human safety are not contradictory but part of the beauty of Islamic teachings, which place everything in its proper context.
