6 dead, including suspect, in series of killings in Michigan

MISSAUKEE COUNTY, MICH. (AP) — Five individuals lost their lives and the suspected perpetrator was among the fatalities following a series of killings that occurred at two residences and a wooded area in Michigan, according to law enforcement. On Friday, the Michigan State Police responded to reports of a shooting at a home in Missaukee County, situated approximately 169 miles (272 kilometers) northwest of Detroit.

Upon arrival, they discovered three deceased individuals and another person sustaining injuries, who was subsequently transported to the hospital. The suspect, identified as Chad Hickman, aged 39, managed to escape before law enforcement arrived at the scene. As authorities pursued Hickman, they uncovered a fourth body in a home, while his vehicle was located in a wooded region near Whitlock Lake, leading to his discovery alongside another lifeless individual.

Authorities have not disclosed the cause of death for each victim nor their potential connections to one another. Lt. Ashley Miller, representing the police department, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, stating that they are dedicated to conducting a comprehensive investigation and will furnish updates as additional information emerges.

The police are currently probing the shooting and have solicited the public to refrain from entering the affected area. The identities and ages of the deceased victims remain undisclosed until their families have been notified, as per police protocol.
