At least six people dead and one wounded in mass shooting in rural Michigan

A mass shooting in the rural area of Missaukee county, northern Michigan, has resulted in six fatalities, including the suspected gunman, and left one person in critical condition, according to state police. The shooting occurred on Friday and prompted a manhunt for the alleged perpetrator. Chad Hickman, identified as the suspected gunman, has been found deceased along with another individual.

Hickman fled the scene, triggering a search for him by authorities, who labeled him as "armed and dangerous." The Missaukee county sheriff's office had previously appealed to the public for assistance in locating Hickman. Michigan state police spokesperson, Lt Ashley Miller, expressed deep sorrow over the situation, stating that investigators are committed to a thorough investigation.

Court records reveal that Hickman was undergoing a divorce and had previously served more than a year in jail due to two misdemeanors. Additionally, he was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a child and child abuse in the fourth degree, stemming from an incident in 2010.
