Trump makes final US midterm pitch at troubled Reflecting Pool

On the day before the US midterm elections, President Donald Trump utilized the Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C. as his final pitch to Republican voters. This location, notorious for its troubled renovation process, symbolized the discord during Trump's second term. The president's speech lasted 26 minutes, focusing on his campaign to renovate monuments across the nation rather than addressing pressing issues such as inflation, the Iran war, or voter concerns.

Recent polls suggest Democrats have a strong likelihood of winning the House of Representatives and are within reach of gaining control of the Senate. This potential shift could impose significant political constraints on Trump's administration, which has seen a decline in public approval ratings. Despite sounding weary, Trump repeatedly emphasized his passion for the monument renovation project, describing it as a unifying endeavor for all Americans.

However, the upkeep of this $15 million project faced numerous setbacks, which Trump attributed to unknown saboteurs. While Trump predicted a Republican victory, he also expressed a willingness to veto legislation if his party were to lose. The outcome of the midterms could significantly impact Trump's ability to make judicial appointments and execute policies, given the potential for a Democratic-controlled Senate to block his actions.
