Man who was shot during 2024 Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, has died

James Copenhaver, a 76-year-old man who was one of three individuals shot during an assassination attempt on then-presidential candidate Donald Trump at a 2024 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, has passed away. Copenhaver, who was shot in the arm and abdomen during the event, died on Wednesday at Allegheny Health Network's West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, according to a statement from the Allegheny County medical examiner.

His injuries, which included multiple surgeries and long-term complications, left him with a cane and limited mobility. Two other individuals, David Dutch and Corey Comperatore, were also shot during the incident, with Dutch surviving and Comperatore tragically losing his life. Copenhaver had filed a lawsuit against the federal government in June, alleging inadequate security provided by the Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security at the rally.

The family's statement emphasized Copenhaver's status as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, highlighting his dedication to his country and the values he instilled in his children.
