Man who was shot during 2024 Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, has died

James Copenhaver, one of three individuals shot during a 2024 assassination attempt on then-candidate Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, has passed away at the age of 76. Copenhaver was among the attendees shot when a 20-year-old gunman opened fire from a nearby rooftop, inadvertently grazing Trump's right ear with a bullet.

Copenhaver himself sustained injuries to his arm and abdomen, which resulted in lingering health issues, including a colon transection and kidney damage. He passed away in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, according to a statement from the Allegheny County medical examiner. Two other individuals, David Dutch and Corey Comperatore, were also shot at the event - Dutch survived, while Comperatore, who shielded his family from the gunfire, tragically lost his life.

Copenhaver's lawyer, Joseph Feldman, revealed that the shooting left him with permanent, debilitating injuries that altered his life. Moreover, Copenhaver and his wife had filed a lawsuit in June against the federal government, accusing the Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security of failing to provide adequate security at the rally.
