Trump says Donald Jr will repay Russian oligarch after wedding gift row

President Donald Trump revealed on Friday that his son, Donald Trump Jr., plans to repay a Russian businessman, Umar Kremlev, for covering several hundred thousand dollars worth of costs related to the Trump Jr.'s wedding celebrations in the Bahamas in May. This revelation came after Democrats in the US Congress initiated an investigation into claims that Kremlev had secretly funded the festivities.

Kremlev, who also runs the International Boxing Association, reportedly spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on the events, including renting one of two private islands for the guests and organizing a fireworks display. The couple confirmed Kremlev's involvement in an Instagram statement, describing him as a "dear friend" who provided an "extremely generous wedding gift."

Donald Trump Jr. reportedly informed his father directly about his intention to reimburse Kremlev. Trump himself acknowledged the situation, stating that he didn't personally know Kremlev but understood that his son had already paid him back. Kremlev and the International Boxing Association have not yet responded to requests for comment.

Democrats' investigation into Kremlev's ties to the Kremlin and his financial connections to the Trump family remains ongoing.
