Education Ministry extends 2026 SHS placement exercise by one week

The Ministry of Education in Ghana has announced an extension to the 2026 Senior High School placement exercise by one week. This decision was made to provide students with outstanding placement issues additional time to secure their preferred schools before the schools reopen on September 18. The extension aims to facilitate students who are undertaking self-placement or seeking changes to their residential status to complete the process before the reopening date.

The resolution centers across the country will remain open from Monday to Friday to assist students with outstanding cases. According to Hashmin Mohammed, the Press Secretary to the Education Minister, significant progress has already been made in resolving the challenges. Out of the 53,887 self-placement students, 33,726 have successfully self-placed themselves into various schools. Additionally, at the 9,948 resolution centers nationwide, the CSSPS Secretariat has managed to resolve 4,531 cases so far.

Mohammed expressed the Ministry's hope to significantly reduce the number of outstanding cases before students report to school on September 18. The resolution centers will continue to operate from Monday to Friday, with the expectation that by the end of the week, the numbers will decrease further. This extension will ensure that students can report to school on time, without any hindrances caused by unresolved placement issues.
