Education Ministry extends 2026 SHS placement exercise by one week

The Ghana Education Ministry has granted students an extra week to finalize the 2026 Senior High School (SHS) placement process, as officials strive to resolve outstanding placement issues before schools reopen on September 18. This extension aims to provide additional time for students who have yet to secure placements through self-placement, as well as those seeking alterations to their residential status.

Resolution centers across the country will remain operational from Monday to Friday to assist students and families with unresolved placement matters. Hashmin Mohammed, the Press Secretary to the Education Minister, stated that significant progress has been made in addressing the challenges. As of now, 33,726 out of the 53,887 students eligible for self-placement have secured places in various schools.

The Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) Secretariat has also dealt with 4,531 of the 9,948 cases brought to the resolution centers nationwide.

Mr. Mohammed explained that the remaining cases are anticipated to decrease notably during the additional week, paving the way for students to report for school on September 18. The Ministry is urging students with outstanding placement concerns to utilize the extension period and visit the designated resolution centers for support.
