Sikorski urges stronger exercises near Kaliningrad to draw Russian troops from Ukraine

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has urged NATO to ramp up military exercises near Russia’s Kaliningrad Oblast in an effort to draw Russian troops away from Ukraine. The minister made these remarks at a conference in Kyiv. Poland is keeping a close eye on the situation in Kaliningrad Oblast, where there are currently "practically no troops."

Sikorski believes that Russia may be under the impression that NATO is a peaceful alliance, and that Poland will not take advantage of this perceived weakness. He suggested that the NATO alliance should conduct exercises that are aggressive enough to make Russia uncertain about Poland's intentions, which could force Russia to redeploy some of its forces from Ukraine.

US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker emphasized the need for NATO to be prepared to deter any potential adversaries, including Russia. He stressed the importance of increasing defense spending and weapons production to ensure that the alliance is prepared for any possible threat.
