Mumelea Kiongozi: Sifuna credits Nairobians for his political rise

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has expressed his gratitude to Nairobians for their support in his political career, stating that their votes were instrumental in his rise to prominence on the national stage. Speaking at Marikiti Market in Nairobi on Sunday, September 13, 2026, Sifuna thanked the voters, crediting their support for his election to the Senate as the key factor behind his political advancement.

"Watu wa Nairobi, nataka nianze kwa kusema asante sana. Kwa sababu ya kura zenu, mlinituma pale Senate. Na kwa sababu ya pale Senate, siku hizi Kenya nzima inaimba wao pia ni Sifuna," he emphasized.

Sifuna challenged the crowd to acknowledge their role in his journey, urging them to applaud themselves for their support. "Kama sio nyinyi kuniinua, mnipatie hiyo nafasi, wachache sana Kenya hii wangekuwa wanajua Sifuna. Nataka mjipigie makofi. Mumelea kiongozi! Mumelea kiongozi!" he passionately declared to the gathering.

As a prominent figure in opposition politics, Sifuna hinted that Kenyans were now seeking to assign him another political role. "Lakini leo, leo nataka niwaambie watu wa Nairobi, Kenya nimezunguka mumekuwa mkituona, sindio? Kenya nzima wanasema kuna kazi ingine wanataka kunituma," he questioned the crowd, suggesting his potential involvement in a new capacity.

The senator also took a pointed swipe at President William Ruto, accusing the government of employing excessive force during protests, specifically mentioning the use of firearms against young people. He alleged that the government was targeting small businesses, and questioned the Kenyan youth's safety under the current administration. "Kuna mtu mmoja hii Kenya ametunyanyasa sana. Kazi yake kila siku ukiamuka ameongeza ushuru kwa kila kitu. Anafungia wanabiashara wadogo wadogo. Munamjua nyinyi?" he inquired.

Adding to his criticism, Sifuna accused the government of mobilizing young people towards violence. "Na kuzidi zaidi, kazi yake ni kupiga vijana wetu risasi. Kenya inasema Mheshimiwa Ruto wakati wake umekamilika!" he asserted, emphasizing his discontent with the government's actions.
