Abang Johari signals possible exit as Sarawak premier

Sarawak Premier Abang Johari has suggested his current tenure may be his last, stating he anticipates a time when he will need to relinquish his position. As the leader of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) since January 2017, the 76-year-old premier revealed that the party is actively grooming a new generation of leaders to guarantee a seamless transition, according to Dayak Daily.

He acknowledged that leadership succession is a necessary process and that the PBB has established a framework to identify and nurture potential successors. During a special convention in northern Sarawak's Miri, Abang Johari pointed out that change is inevitable, noting, "Leaders change. There comes a time when we say thank you, I am stepping aside, and someone new replaces me.

We have to train our successors." He emphasized that the party's long-term viability hinges on its capacity to cultivate disciplined leaders who fully grasp the community's requirements and maintain Sarawak's political stability. The premier affirmed, "PBB will always remain because we possess a system to rejuvenate the party, but I will decide when the time arrives."
