Abang Johari signals possible exit as Sarawak premier

PETALING JAYA: Sarawak premier and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president Abang Johari Open has suggested that his tenure may be coming to an end. The 76-year-old stated that his time in office will eventually come for him to step aside. Dayak Daily reported that the PBB is preparing a new generation of leaders to ensure a smooth transition.

Abang Johari emphasized that leadership succession is inevitable and that the party has a system in place to identify and train potential successors. He acknowledged that "leaders change" and stated that there will come a time when he will "thank you, I am stepping aside, and someone new replaces me." Abang Johari explained that the party's succession plan is not focused on a single individual but rather involves developing younger leaders across its divisions.

He stressed that PBB's longevity depends on its ability to continuously develop disciplined leaders who understand the needs of their communities and can safeguard Sarawak's political stability. "PBB will always be there because we have a system to rejuvenate the party," he said, adding that he will make the decision to leave when the time comes.
