‘This may be my last time’: Abang Johari hints at possible final term as PBB president, calls on younger leaders to step up

MIRI, Sept 13 — Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg hinted at the possibility of his final term as PBB president, asking older leaders to step aside for younger leaders to continue the party's mission. The PBB president emphasized that succession was a natural process, and the party must continually develop and train younger members to assume leadership when the time arrived.

"I'm 76 years old, and in four years, I'll be 80," Abang Johari stated. "I want to be honest, this may be my last time. We cannot defy nature." He mentioned that, despite their youthful hearts, they cannot go against the natural order. Abang Johari clarified that the decision would be left to him when the time came. He urged members not to be disappointed when their turn came to make way for younger leaders, emphasizing that the spirit of PBB must be carried forward by those who care about Sarawak.

Training for future leaders, including communication skills and interaction with diverse communities and religions, was essential, according to Abang Johari. The PBB had already incorporated new faces, such as young leaders, into the party during the last election.
