Apple's new boss starts with big gamble on costly first folding iPhone

Apple has appointed John Ternus as its new chief executive, just two weeks into the role, just as the company unveils a significant change to the iconic iPhone. Ternus, who took over from Tim Cook, displayed the highly anticipated foldable iPhone, called the Duo, at the company's annual product launch event. The Duo boasts a book-style design and is the largest iPhone ever, with starting prices ranging from $2,000 (£1,475) to $3,200 (£2,499).

Ternus highlighted the Duo's intuitive folding features, aiming to create a unique experience that stands out from other foldable smartphones. The company also announced the new iPhone 18 and 18 Pro, starting at $1,200 (£885) and $1,300 (£959) respectively. Despite the high price point, analysts suggest that the foldable iPhone could face challenges similar to Apple's Vision Pro headset, which has struggled to gain traction.
