Two Palestinian youths killed and village razed as Israeli attacks on West Bank continue

Israeli forces demolished the entire West Bank village of Khirbet Al Tabban and killed two Palestinian teenagers, escalating the ongoing violence in the occupied territory. The destruction displaced 12 families, totaling 70 people, including 28 children, according to the Israeli rights group B’Tselem. This is the 66th Palestinian community forcibly displaced since the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, which triggered the Gaza war.

Less than 24 hours later, Israeli military killed two teenagers from the village of Al Mughayyir, near Ramallah, during an attack by Israeli settlers with the assistance of Israeli troops. The victims, identified as 16-year-old Khalil Shehadeh and 19-year-old Omar Al Naasan, were reportedly killed during a violent riot instigated by the attackers who hurled cinder blocks and stones at the forces. Israel claimed its military responded to the threat and fired at the "key instigators" to neutralize the danger.

The recent surge in violence against Palestinians in the West Bank, including killings, settler riots, home sieges, and land grabs, has intensified in recent weeks. Israeli President Isaac Herzog blamed "juvenile delinquents" for the violence, while US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee labeled some of the acts as those of "Israeli terrorists".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, amidst a challenging election campaign, is accused of allowing the violence to continue to appease his far-right base and coalition partners. Netanyahu was seen smiling and nodding as Jewish-Israeli religious students sang a song associated with the far-right movement, emphasizing a "vengeance" stance against Palestine.
