Man arrested after girlfriend dies following alleged assault

A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with his 44-year-old girlfriend's death in Penampang, Sabah, following an alleged assault, according to the Penampang police chief. The incident occurred on August 31st, when the couple reportedly had a misunderstanding. The woman was allegedly assaulted and lost consciousness, after which she was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital I in Kota Kinabalu via ambulance.

However, she was pronounced dead while receiving medical treatment. The Penampang police chief, Sammy Newton, stated that the woman was brought to the hospital following the launch of an investigation by the district criminal investigation department. Forensic teams from Sabah were also present at the scene. Several items and samples believed to be relevant to the case were collected for forensic examination.
