Two Palestinian youths killed and village razed as Israeli attacks on West Bank continue

Israeli forces have razed the West Bank village of Khirbet Al Tabban and slain two Palestinian youths, escalating the ongoing violence in the occupied territory. The demolition displaced 12 families, totaling 70 individuals, with 28 of them being children, according to the Israeli rights organization B’Tselem. Over several hours, Israeli troops destroyed all structures in the village, including homes, farms, and water cisterns.

This is the 66th Palestinian community Israel has forcibly uprooted since the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, which sparked the Gaza conflict.

Later that day, the Israeli military killed 16-year-old Khalil Shehadeh and 19-year-old Omar Al Naasan from the village of Al Mughayyir, near Ramallah's capital. Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that the deaths occurred during an attack by Israeli settlers, who were allegedly accompanied by Israeli soldiers. The military stated they were protecting "police and a civilian" attempting to return livestock.

The troops claimed a violent riot erupted during their operation, with attackers throwing cinder blocks and stones at the forces. In response, the soldiers fired at the instigators to neutralize the threat.

This latest violence in the West Bank is part of a surge in attacks on Palestinians, Jewish-Israeli peace activists, and journalists in recent weeks. The incidents include killings, settler rampages, home sieges, and land seizures. Israeli President Isaac Herzog claimed there is a "major effort" by authorities to quell the violence perpetrated by what he described as "juvenile delinquents."

However, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee referred to some of the recent acts as the work of "Israeli terrorists." Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, amidst a challenging election campaign, is accused of allowing the violence to continue to satisfy his far-right base and coalition partners. On Wednesday, Netanyahu was seen smiling and nodding as Jewish-Israeli religious students sang a song associated with the far-right movement, with lyrics calling for vengeance against Palestine.
