Man arrested after girlfriend dies following alleged assault

A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of his 44-year-old girlfriend in Penampang, Sabah, following an alleged assault, according to Penampang police chief Sammy Newton. The incident is believed to have occurred on August 31st.

Newton stated that preliminary investigations revealed the altercation began as a misunderstanding between the couple. The woman reportedly suffered an assault and lost consciousness. She was transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital I in Kota Kinabalu via ambulance, but was declared dead while receiving medical treatment.

The woman's boyfriend was apprehended by the police after the district criminal investigation department initiated an investigation and conducted a thorough examination of the scene alongside the Sabah police forensic team. Several items and samples potentially connected to the case were collected for forensic analysis.
