Man City sign Fernandez, Ndiaye as Premier League clubs spend record £3.46bn

In a record-breaking transfer window, Premier League clubs collectively spent a staggering £3.46 billion, surpassing their previous transfer record of £3.1 billion. Manchester City took the lead, signing Argentine Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for £125 million, a fee that matched the British transfer record set by Liverpool for Alexander Isak a year prior.

The Argentine midfielder, who played under City's upcoming manager Maresca at Chelsea, was linked with the club for months but sealed the deal in the final hours before the window closed. Fernandez will bolster City's midfield, joining England international Elliot Anderson and Moroccan teenager Ayyoub Bouaddi in a new-look City squad valued at over £325 million.

Elsewhere, City also secured Senegal forward Iliman Ndiaye from Everton in a £65 million deal, further expanding their summer spending to £450 million. Chelsea's attempts to replace Fernandez with Monaco's Lamine Camara and Everton's failed £40 million bid for United States striker Folarin Balogun were unsuccessful. Liverpool signed France forward Bradley Barcola for £123 million, while Liverpool's other targets, Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr and Brighton's Yankuba Minteh, opted not to move to Anfield.

Liverpool did, however, sign Belgian goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans on loan. Tottenham secured a loan deal for Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk and signed Tosin Adarabioyo for £10 million. Newcastle signed Belgium forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille for £51 million, continuing their rebuilding efforts after recent departures.
