Government unveils new uniform for Kenya Police Service General Duty officers

The Government of Kenya has introduced a new uniform for General Duty officers of the Kenya Police Service. This decision came after consultations with police personnel and public input in 2023, as well as recommendations from the Presidential Taskforce on Police Reforms. During the graduation ceremony for new recruits at the National Police Training College in Nyeri County, President William Ruto announced that these officers would be the first to adopt the new attire.

The uniform will gradually be introduced to other General Duty officers nationwide starting next week.

President Ruto emphasized that this change addresses the concerns officers had about the quality and durability of previous uniforms and their impact on professional identity. Though he acknowledged that a uniform alone does not create professionalism, which is determined by factors such as character, discipline, training, and conduct, he stressed that the government listened to the concerns because the well-being of officers matters.

The Administration Police Service and the General Service Unit will continue to wear their existing uniforms.
