Three injured as policeman kills driver at checkpoint in Rivers

A tragic incident occurred at the Agip-Ada George junction in Port Harcourt, where a policeman shot and killed a driver named Anthony, resulting in three additional injuries. The events unfolded on Thursday evening at around 5pm, when the policeman encountered Anthony, who was driving a private car, at the junction. The policeman claimed that Anthony refused to stop after being flagged down.

In response, the policeman fired three shots at Anthony, striking him in the back and causing the vehicle to lose control. The young man's car crashed into three people, who were all seriously injured. Eyewitnesses reported chaos in the area as passers-by and residents rushed to help the driver, who was unconscious and covered in blood.

The policeman attempted to flee the scene by shooting sporadically into the air, but was confronted by some youths who collected the gun from him and began beating him. Police officers later arrived and rescued the policeman. The spokesperson for the state Police Command, Blessing Agaba, confirmed the incident and stated that an official statement would be released with further details.
