Securing lives of Nigerians non-negotiable, key to economic growth — Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu emphasized that national security is vital for Nigeria's economic growth and prosperity during his remarks at the National Defence College Course 34 graduation ceremony in Abuja. The President, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima, stressed that safeguarding lives and protecting citizens is the foundation for meaningful business expansion in the country.

Tinubu called on the Armed Forces and security agencies to continue their efforts in combating terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, piracy, and organized criminality with bravery and professionalism. He stressed that the government would provide necessary resources, training, and support for their critical duties. Tinubu also highlighted that peace creates opportunities for businesses and strengthens citizens' involvement in peace.

When communities achieve security, opportunity must follow, as stability thrives when people can work, trade, learn, and hope. Tinubu tied national stability to economic opportunity, stating that peace facilitates enterprise, which in turn enlarges the citizen's stake in peace. He mentioned that Africa's security increasingly relies on productive economies, regional value chains, innovation, and industries that can employ the continent's youthful population.

Tinubu emphasized the need for industrialization to stimulate inclusive growth, reduce structural vulnerabilities, and expand continental bargaining power. He reaffirmed Nigeria's dedication to a peaceful, prosperous, and integrated Africa. The President outlined ongoing efforts under the Renewed Hope Agenda to foster a more productive and diversified economy, including improving conditions for enterprise, encouraging private investment, promoting local value addition, and expanding infrastructure such as roads, railways, ports, energy, and digital connectivity.

Tinubu also addressed domestic reforms, focusing on building a more productive and diversified economy. He urged the graduands to deepen cooperation, understanding, peace, and development across Africa and beyond, carrying forward the college's values of excellence, courage, patriotism, and integrity.
