I’ll be chairman for every NPP member, not one faction – Paul Afoko

Paul Afoko, a National Chairmanship aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has vowed to lead an inclusive administration and serve all members of the party if elected, regardless of their faction, preferred candidate, region, or generation. Speaking to party delegates after filing his nomination at the NPP headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, Afoko highlighted how internal contests had led to divisions, strained relationships, and the labeling of members based on their support for specific candidates.

He emphasized that there cannot be multiple NPP factions; instead, there should be one party where every Patriot has a place.

Afoko pledged not to pursue personal grievances or reward one faction over others while in office. He stated that if elected, he would assume the role without enemies to punish, scores to settle, or factions to reward at the expense of others. Reflecting on his previous tenure as National Chairman, which ended amid significant internal disputes, Afoko expressed a commitment to returning without bitterness or rancour, emphasizing that the party is larger than any individual, including himself.

Appealing to fellow contestants, Afoko urged them to see the election as an internal democratic process rather than a political battle. He called them brothers and fellow Patriots, emphasizing that they may compete for the position but must remain united as a family to fight for the same victory post-election. Afoko presented his campaign as a contract to delegates, promising not to restrict his leadership to any faction, candidate, region, or generation.

He affirmed that his administration would be inclusive, catering to supporters and opponents alike, as well as long-standing members and new party members.

Afoko argued that the NPP could only be strong enough to defeat its political opponents if its members stopped viewing one another as enemies. Anchoring his campaign on the three objectives of "Reunite, Reorganise, and Recapture," he positioned himself to challenge for political power in the 2028 general election.
