I’ll work tirelessly with Bawumia to return NPP to power in 2028 – Paul Afoko

Paul Afoko, the National Chairmanship aspirant of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pledged unwavering cooperation with the party's flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to secure victory in the 2028 general election. Afoko made this commitment after submitting his nomination papers for the NPP's National Chairmanship election at the party's headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

He emphasized the necessity for the NPP to put its internal disputes to rest and develop a united, disciplined, and powerful political organization to regain the trust of Ghanaians. "Our Party has already elected Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as our Presidential Candidate. That contest is over. The delegates have spoken. Our responsibility now is clear," Afoko stated.

"We must provide our Presidential Candidate with a united, disciplined, formidable party capable of carrying our message into every community in Ghana and winning the confidence of the Ghanaian people." If elected as National Chairman, Afoko assured that he would offer Dr Bawumia the organizational support needed to lead the NPP back to government in 2028.

He dismissed claims that the National Chairman and flagbearer could become competing authorities, asserting that their roles complement each other. "The flagbearer and the Chairman do not compete with one another. Their responsibilities complement one another," Afoko said. "The flagbearer leads our national electoral proposition.

The Chairman must ensure that behind him stands a functioning political organization capable of translating that proposition into votes." The former NPP National Chairman highlighted the party's campaign to reclaim political power, stating that efforts must commence immediately, cautioning that elections are not won through last-minute preparations.

"Our journey back to government in 2028 does not begin in December 2028. It begins now," Afoko declared. "The NPP cannot wait until 2028 to become an election-winning machine. We must build that machine today." Afoko's campaign centers on three objectives: "Reunite, Reorganise, and Recapture," designed to mend internal divisions, rebuild the party from the grassroots level, and position it for success in the upcoming general election.

He also pledged to lead the party without considering factional interests, emphasizing that he does not seek to punish any faction, settle scores, or reward one faction over another. "I am not contesting to become Chairman of a faction. I am contesting to become Chairman of the New Patriotic Party," Afoko affirmed.
