CDA Damages Gas Network in Key Islamabad Sector

The Capital Development Authority's (CDA) development work has caused damage to the gas network in Islamabad's I 11 sectors, which has left 419 applications for RLNG-based domestic connections pending. The Ministry of Energy's Petroleum Division confirmed that gas connections in I 11/1 and I 11/2 were halted after the network was damaged during CDA's development work.

The matter has been brought to the attention of CDA for the recovery of damages. During 2025 and 2026, 445 applications for RLNG-based domestic gas connections were submitted from residents of the two sectors, with 217 applications falling under the fast-track category and 228 under the normal category. So far, 14 connections have been granted based on applicants' turn and merit.

SNGPL issued urgent fee bills for applications received up to January 10, 2026, and 37 applicants deposited the required fees. Subsequent surveys were conducted at the premises of these applicants, and demand notices for security and service line charges were sent to 26 applicants. However, four applicants did not deposit the connection fee, and 419 applications remain pending due to the damaged gas network.

Fourteen surveys have been completed, but demand notices for 11 applications could not be issued because the network is still damaged. The remaining demand notices will be issued once the network is repaired and RLNG supplies are normalized. The ministry also mentioned that the provision of RLNG-based domestic connections is currently halted due to a disruption in RLNG supplies from Qatar. The issue of gas network damage has been taken up with CDA for recovering the associated damages.
