Sun Life and Wilton Re to form reinsurance and asset management partnership

Sun Life Financial Inc. has entered into an agreement with U.S. reinsurance firm Wilton Re to establish a strategic partnership in reinsurance and asset management. The collaboration aims to leverage Wilton Re's expertise in liability management alongside Sun Life's insurance and asset management strengths. Together, the companies intend to deploy approximately US$900 million, with capital contributions from both entities.

Windsor Life Re, the resulting joint venture, will be managed by Wilton Re, while SLC Management, Sun Life's global institutional alternatives asset manager, will serve as the lead asset manager. The partnership is slated to commence in the first half of 2027, pending regulatory clearances and other standard closing conditions. Wilton Re is managed by the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board.
