President Mahama to cut sod for multi-purpose car park and Airport Hotels Complex

President John Dramani Mahama is set to officially mark the start of construction for a new multi-tiered, multi-purpose car park and Airport Hotels Complex at the Accra International Airport. The ceremonial sod-cutting event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 27, 2026. This ambitious project aims to elevate the airport into a world-class facility, significantly enhancing the passenger experience and commercial operations at Kotoka International Airport.

During his previous term in office, Mahama oversaw the development of several notable projects. These include Terminal 3 at the Kotoka International Airport, the expansive MPS Terminal 3 at the Tema Harbour, and the provision of $400 million in funding for the Tema to Mpakadan Rail Project. The upcoming multi-purpose complex is expected to bring about a substantial transformation to the airport's existing infrastructure, positioning it as a formidable aviation hub in the sub-region.

Key features of the new Airport Hotels Complex include a 7-storey car park with over 2,000 bays, two hotels, a pedestrian connector to the terminal, a shopping mall featuring a food court, retail spaces, and office rental spaces, a sky lounge for entertainment, a sky observatory offering aircraft viewing opportunities, and lands for landings and take-offs.

The sod-cutting ceremony marks the official commencement of construction works, which will bolster the airport's infrastructure and solidify its status as a competitive aviation hub in the region.
