Google expands Gemini Enterprise AI platform for law firms, lawyers

Alphabet's Google has expanded its Gemini Enterprise artificial intelligence platform to include new tools specifically for lawyers and law firms, according to Reuters. The aim is to allow law firms to leverage AI for both routine and complex work, enabling lawyers to concentrate on higher-value services while ensuring their data remains secure and confidential.

The platform, known as Gemini Enterprise for Legal, integrates with various legal software and data platforms. It also features a suite of AI agents capable of managing specialized legal and administrative tasks with minimal human intervention. Google announced this expansion in response to the growing demand among technology companies to provide AI solutions to the legal sector.

Google Cloud, which has become one of Alphabet's fastest-growing businesses, has been driving this initiative. In addition to legal applications, Google is unveiling industry tools for the financial services sector and will roll out other industry-specific offerings in the future. Rival AI companies, such as Anthropic, are also expanding their enterprise offerings, including in the legal field.

Google's platform will seamlessly connect with other legal technology platforms, including those owned by Thomson Reuters, legal AI software developers Harvey and Legora, and others. Law firms are increasingly adopting generative AI tools for various legal tasks, such as legal research, drafting filings, and managing clients and cases, all aimed at reducing costs and improving efficiency.

Google's new offering is designed to be adaptable for law firms, allowing them to choose among AI models embedded in the platform. Notable law firms, such as Weil Gotshal, Cleary Gottlieb, Freshfields, and Williams & Connolly, are collaborating with Google on Gemini Enterprise for Legal. These partners believe that AI is becoming essential for their clients, with firms like Weil Gotshal's co-managing partner expressing the expectation that their lawyers will increasingly use AI tools to enhance efficiency.
