Claude and Cowork now share what they know about you

Anthropic's Claude chatbot and Cowork assistant can now share memories, according to the company's recent announcement. This means that the information Claude remembers about users is now accessible to Cowork, and vice versa. Memories can include details like a user's interests, names of friends, family members, and coworkers. Claude uses memories to provide context for its responses, making it more helpful for work-related tasks, such as those performed by Cowork.

For instance, when requesting a manager update from Cowork, it can already know who the recipient is and tailor the language accordingly. Anthropic emphasizes that memory generation is now happening in real-time during conversations, rather than at the end of the chat. This new system is available by default for free, Pro, and Max-tier users, but Anthropic does not store sensitive information like health or political beliefs without explicit user permission.

Memories are currently shared across both Claude Chat and Cowork, unless users opt to use separate accounts or take measures such as pausing Claude's memory capability, using incognito chats, or manually deleting individual memories. The shared memory feature is now available to all users, with Team and Enterprise administrators responsible for enabling this feature.
