Osun decides: Adeleke leads as INEC uploads over 96 per cent of election results to IReV

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that over 96 percent of Osun State's governorship election results have been uploaded to the Results Viewing Portal, IReV. At 3 am on Sunday, DAILY POST confirmed that the commission was adhering to its commitment to publish the election results. Voters in Osun State had cast their ballots for the next governor for a four-year term on Saturday.

The election saw 15 political parties in participation, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, representing the Accord Party, aiming for re-election. INEC has already published results from 24 out of the 30 Local Government Areas in the state. The All Progressives Congress (APC) secured eight of these LGAs, while the Accord Party won the remaining 16.

Adeleke currently leads with 347,730 votes, while his opponent, Gboyega Oyebamiji, follows with 283,653 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) came in third place with 13,143 votes. As collation continues across the state, results from other polling units are steadily arriving. However, the election was not without challenges, as reports of intimidation, vote-buying, and other forms of electoral violence surfaced in some areas. Despite these issues, voting proceeded smoothly in many parts of Osun State.
