Apple expected to sell 6 million units of iPhone Duo on 'bold' price point

Apple is expected to sell approximately six million units of its new foldable iPhone Duo this year, according to Counterpoint Research. The device's price point, set at $1,999, is a significant factor in driving demand, as it is positioned just under the $2,000 mark, which analysts view as a bold move for a first-generation foldable.

Tarun Pathak, research director at Counterpoint Research, believes the pricing could attract existing iPhone Pro series users and early adopters who have been eagerly awaiting an Apple foldable. The upper estimate of six million units is contingent on the speed of production ramp-up. Launched this month, Apple's foldable device has been described as a "thoughtful design" by the company's new CEO, John Ternus, who criticized competitors for merely gluing two phones together.

Despite the challenges of durability, crease visibility, hinge reliability, thickness, weight, and battery life, Apple's scale and stringent quality standards are expected to push suppliers to invest more in engineering, capacity, and yield improvement. As a result, the foldables segment is anticipated to experience a substantial boost in 2026, growing by 12.6 percent to reach 22.9 million units, and continuing to accelerate with a 18 percent growth in 2027, totaling around 27 million units.
