Saravanan, family members at MACC to receive asset declaration notice

Former Malaysian human resources minister Datuk Seri M Saravanan, together with his family, headed to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office on Monday morning. Reports suggest that Saravanan and his wife, along with two of their children, were expected to receive asset declaration notices from the MACC. Arriving at the MACC headquarters at 9.15am, the family was spotted in two black Toyota Alphard and Vellfire vehicles.

The former minister is currently facing three charges related to a RM1.097 million bribe scandal that allegedly occurred four years ago. The charges stem from the approval of 1,000 foreign worker quotas for TYKB Engineering Sdn Bhd. Saravanan, who is also the deputy president of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MIC), pleaded not guilty to the charges in a Kuala Lumpur court on August 28.

On Friday, MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman announced that the agency would serve asset declaration notices on Saravanan, his wife, and their three children. According to Halim, Saravanan and his family were informed and would arrive at the MACC headquarters to receive the notices. However, Halim indicated that one of the children, who is currently studying in London, would receive his notice in November.
