LG poll: APC sweeps 17 chairmanship seats in Yobe

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured victory in all 17 chairmanship positions and 176 of the 178 councillorship seats in Yobe State's local government elections held on Saturday. Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Yabani, Chairman of the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC), announced the results on Sunday in Damaturu.

The elections took place across 178 wards and 17 Local Government Areas, with 10 political parties participating. According to Yabani, the APC clinched the chairmanship seats, while the Action Peoples Party (APP) emerged victorious in Fune LGA and the Action Democratic Party (ADP) won in Karasuwa LGA. Yabani declared that the APC secured 176 councillorship seats, while the APP won one seat in Fune and the ADP claimed one seat in Karasuwa.

The elections commenced on April 23, 2025, under the late Dr. Mamman Mohammed's leadership. Yabani paid tribute to his predecessor by observing a minute silence in his honor. The minute-by-minute account of the election process began at ward collation centers, moved to LGA collation centers for chairmanship results, and concluded at the state headquarters with the final collation.

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Yobe State chapter, has endorsed the election outcome, labeling it as free, fair, and credible. IPAC Chairman, Comrade Umar Adamu Jajere, commended the peaceful atmosphere during the election, hailed political parties for maintaining maturity during campaigns, and lauded security agencies for their professionalism and impartiality.
