Saravanan willing to declare all assets, questions need for 12-year-old son to attend MACC

Former Malaysian Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan has expressed his readiness to cooperate fully with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) by disclosing details of his assets held since 2019, both within Malaysia and abroad, along with their sources. Providing an asset declaration notice under Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009, Saravanan, the Tapah Member of Parliament, clarified that the notice is a standard procedure for the commission to investigate allegations, determine if assets were owned by him or his family members, and assess if their wealth is out of the ordinary.

Saravanan reassured the public that there was nothing to hide and was willing to disclose the submitted information to the media. He emphasized that the assets he holds were acquired lawfully, highlighting his extensive experience in the civil service and as an elected representative - including a six-year tenure in the Dewan Negara, four terms as an MP and two terms as deputy minister before becoming a minister.

Saravanan served over 20 years in the public sector, suggesting that any assets he acquired were likely legitimate.

The MACC Chief Commissioner, Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman, announced that notices would be issued to Saravanan, his wife, and their three children, requesting them to declare their assets within a month. Another child still overseas would receive a notice in November. Previously, Saravanan faced charges in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court for three counts of receiving bribes totaling nearly RM1.09 million in connection with approving 1,000 foreign worker quotas for a company in 2022.
