Zahid: BN’s Unity Government pact ends with parliament’s dissolution

Barisan Nasional chairman Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has announced that the coalition will cease to be part of the Unity Government once the 15th Malaysian Parliament is dissolved. This announcement comes as Zahid clarified that BN's commitment to the Unity Government does not extend beyond the current parliamentary term. "The moment (Parliament is dissolved), we are no longer together with them," Zahid stated during his keynote address at the 18th annual general assembly of Parti Makkal Sakti Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.

BN had joined the Unity Government following the 15th General Election (GE15) with the aim of having a "one fixed compass." The coalition's commitment was made to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and formalised through the formation of the Unity Government. However, Zahid emphasized that BN's participation in the Unity Government did not imply surrendering its identity or abandoning its own political positions. The 15th Parliament is set to dissolve on September 27, 2026.
