Bangkok rain drives commuters onto packed trains

Heavy rain inundated Bangkok on September 25th, prompting commuters to abandon their cars, motorcycles, and buses in favor of the city's electric train network. By 8:30pm, stations across the network were packed with passengers, and queues formed at numerous stops. Some commuters reported delays on certain lines as they sought to avoid the worsening traffic and waterlogged roads caused by the downpour.

Several typically bus commuters switched to the train specifically due to the rain, opting for a faster, more predictable journey despite a higher fare. The trains were notably busier than usual, with longer waits to board carriages. Despite the crowding, many passengers still viewed the trains as the safer option compared to the rain-soaked traffic.

As of 8:30pm, long queues persisted at platforms, with commuters continuing to favor the trains over buses, even as passenger numbers exceeded normal levels.
