Zahid says Najib solidarity fund hits RM9.25m — still RM40.75m short of target

KUALA LUMPUR — The Najib Razak Solidarity Fund, launched by Umno on September 18, has amassed RM9.25 million after just nine days, falling short of the RM50 million target set by the Pardons Board. Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi disclosed the current total at 10am on Saturday, highlighting the RM40.75 million deficit. Zahid emphasized the urgency of garnering additional support to meet the financial requirements stipulated by the Pardons Board before Najib can fully comply with the conditions of his house arrest, set to conclude on August 23, 2028.

The fund's growth was rapid in its early days, reaching RM165,645 within the first hour, expanding to RM634,562.02 within three hours, and peaking at RM1 million by 9.30am the following day. Despite this progress, Najib's legal team maintains that he remains incarcerated in Kajang Prison until the RM50 million fine is settled. Meanwhile, a substantial portion of his assets continues to be frozen under legal orders.

Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar confirmed on September 21 that Najib's family has yet to fulfill the fine payment, while the Prisons Department expressed readiness to implement the Pardons Board's order once it receives the requisite documentation and official notification.
