'Once Parliament is dissolved, we are no longer with them' - Zahid

Once Parliament is dissolved, the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, made it clear that the coalition would no longer be associated with the unity government. This assurance was given during his keynote address at the 18th Annual General Assembly of Parti Makkal Sakti Malaysia. Zahid stated that BN had decided to join the unity government following the 15th general election (GE15) and would remain committed to the government until the dissolution of the 15th Parliament.

Despite this, he emphasized that BN's participation in the government would not diminish its own identity or political stance. He also noted that different political arrangements could exist at the federal and state levels, citing Johor as an example of BN contesting independently at the state level while still being part of the federal government.

However, Makkal Sakti president Dr R.S. Thanenthiran urged BN to exit the unity government as soon as possible, accusing the coalition and its leaders of facing repeated pressure and scrutiny. Thanenthiran asserted that the resolution to discuss the matter at the highest level of BN leadership had been passed by the party's 18th annual general assembly.

He also cautioned that BN's continued involvement in the unity government could tarnish the coalition's reputation.
